The name, “Neontics” came about from a conversation with a friend. For a long time I had been trying to get a business idea off the ground, finding it hard to find the resources and help I needed to do it. I realised that there was a lot of people and information out there, but it was lacking coordination, integration and often the kind of hands on help, energy and enthusiasm I needed to get going. It frustrated me so much I thought I would build something myself to help other people release the potential within them.
As I tried to figure out a name for this new venture, I did the time honoured thing of checking out Latin and Greek, everything from mythical characters, to symbolic words to nonsense one or two syllable corruptions of words, designed to be catchy and memorable. Then I realised what I wanted was something that captured in essence the mission and values the company was built on. The whole point is that it exists to help and support other people to succeed.
We were talking about the Matrix and “Neo” – meaning new or young, which seemed apt. I started to play around with that and found the definition of neon as an inert gas, which requires an electrical current to pass through it to release its energy – and I liked that. Our success is dependent upon helping you to be successful, first and foremost and so we provide the current that releases the bright light and energy of your business for the good of you and other people. Finally, “ontics” which is from the Greek and refers to the general nature of “being”. What is real.
And so the combined meaning is “new ways of being” which is pretty much what we are concerned with. Meaning, new ways of being and helping to put energy behind making your work and working life successful. That means finding and sharing information, people and resources that are helpful, when you are starting out in business, making the connections that help you to grow and succeed and promoting new ways of collaborating to release potential.
